In this Maytag dishwasher reset button sequence guide, I will show you how you can quickly reset your dishwasher using the control panel buttons.
For the most part, resetting helps in troubleshooting and fixing most problems your Maytag dishwasher might run into.
Maytag dishwasher reset button sequence
Usually, the reset button sequence will vary from one Maytag dishwasher model to the other.
As such, there are several different sequences you can try.
With that in mind, let us start by looking at the most common method (it will work on most Maytag dishwashers)…
- With the dishwasher in standby mode, open its door.
- In quick succession, press the following buttons: Heated Dry → Normal → Heated Dry → Normal.
If the method is successful, the indicator lights will light up in unison.
Pro tip: Be sure to complete pressing these buttons within three seconds.
- Close the door.
- The appliance should start running on its own – let it run to completion (takes a couple of minutes).
Something else: If your model does not have the Heated Dry option, you can use the Air Dry or Energy Saver Dry keys.
Alternative Maytag dishwasher reset button sequence you can try
- Open and close the dishwasher’s door.
- In quick succession, press and release the Rinse button five times.
- Press the Drain/Off key two times (in rapid succession).
Doing so will deactivate Demo mode (it might be resulting in your dishwasher acting up) and the dishwasher should now run normally.
Below are a few more reset sequences that you can try for specific Maytag dishwasher models…
Maytag MDB7749CBM dishwasher reset sequence
With your dishwasher in standby mode (and the door open), do the following:
- Press the Start button to wake up the dishwasher’s control panel.
- Press the Hi Temp → Sanitize → Heated dry buttons successively while repeating this two more times.
Alternatively, press any other three buttons using the sequence 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3.
Pro tip: When pressing this button sequence, be sure to do so in rapid succession.
- If you are successful, all the indicator lights should now light up.
- Close the door to start the service diagnostics.
This method works because invoking the service diagnostics will clear (reset) your dishwasher’s memory and restore the defaults.

Maytag Quiet series 200 dishwasher reset steps
Disconnect the dishwasher from the power outlet and let it sit for at least five minutes.
Alternatively, you can turn off the circuit breaker to the dishwasher… And again, let the appliance sit for around five minutes before you reconnect the power.
Alternative method you can use to reset your Maytag dishwasher
If you have tried the above button sequences and none seems to be working on your dishwasher model, you can try hard resetting (power cycling) it.
To do so, disconnect your dishwasher from the power outlet and let it sit for at least five minutes before reconnecting it.
Pro tip: If you do not have direct access to the power outlet, trip the circuit breaker and let it stay like that for at least five minutes.
Once the five minutes elapse, reconnect your Maytag dishwasher back to power and run a test cycle.
In case you are wondering why this works, it is because at times the dishwasher acts up due to the presence of static/flea charges on the control board.
And, the five minutes with no power going through the board allows these charges to flow out.
Is there a reset button on a Maytag dishwasher?
No. Maytag dishwashers do not have a dedicated reset button.
But luckily, they do have reset button sequences that you can use to reset the appliance (as we have seen above).
Maytag dishwasher reset button sequence – parting words
As you might have noted, some of the above reset sequences involved using the diagnostic mode to reset the dishwasher.
Now, if your dishwasher aborts and produces an error code (or one or more lights start flashing repeatedly), it means that something is causing your dishwasher to act up.
In such a case, you should look up the code in the owner’s manual to better troubleshoot the possible cause of the problem.
