Explain to me how to reset a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage

Your Samsung fridge not working after power outage? Learn how to reset a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage in this post

Samsung refrigerators are not perfect- no brand is faultless anyway- and they occasionally run into problems that prevent them from working properly (it may even fail to work altogether depending on the severity of the fault).

Now, one of the most common issues is the fridge acting up after a power outage probably after a terrible windstorm

In other words, you’re not alone if your Samsung refrigerator starts to act weird after power is restored.

To be honest, I have seen plenty of issues arise  after power goes out when working with these fridges (I’m an appliance repairman)..

Examples include:

  • The fridge throws unusual error codes on the display after power restoration- you might even get dreaded fault codes such as the  33 C error code or code 33 E on your Samsung fridge.
  • The control panel on the refrigerator getting stuck on 88 88 (88 88 means it is in power safety mode)

.The upside is that you can easily solve the majority of these issues by resetting your Samsung fridge.

So below is how to reset a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage

How to reset a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage (how to reset Samsung refrigerator display after power outage)

The simplest way is to press the Power Freeze and the Power Cool buttons on the front user interface panel simultaneously for about 8 seconds.

If the panel responds, you might get the fridge out of Demo mode (your Fridge may have entered Demo mode after power came back) and everything will go right back to working order (both fridge and freezer, depending on your model).

Something else:

While for the most part pressing the buttons Power Freeze and the Power Cool buttons at the same time works, you need to hold down different button combinations, in some Samsung models.

For instance, there are a couple of Samsung refrigerator models where you have to hold onto the Freezer and Energy Saver down simultaneously for 8 seconds to reset the appliance.

So if the Power Freeze and the Power Cool pair won’t help, try to press the Freezer and Energy Saver button down at the same time  (for 8 seconds always).

Your other option is pushing down Cool Select and Power Freeze buttons – it could take yours out of FF mode or power safety mode if that is what is giving you blues.

Also, you can perform system reset by pressing the Freezer button + Fridge button in a couple of models.

Keep in mind that you might have to try holding down the right two buttons on yours several times or for longer -10 seconds and more) to make your troublesome appliance reset if it is not responding during your initial attempt.

So that is how to reset a Samsung refrigerator after a power outage (the entire fridge or the problematic part)-it is how you can reset the panel if it got stuck on 88 88 after electricity outage which lasts for a few minutes

Try these steps too if your fridge is flashing numbers 4 and 2 and the refrigerator is not cooling or freezing or it is displaying error codes like the 24 E error code, flashing E 40 code,  or the OF error code.

Oh, and I should add that this is the most straightforward and cheapest solution for nearly all Samsung post-power outage mishaps.

In fact, holding down the above buttons occasionally solves no power issue on select Samsung refrigerators.

How to fix Samsung fridge after power outage – recap

To recap, pressing the Power Cool and the Power Freeze buttons for 8 seconds tends to do the trick when it comes to resetting almost all Samsung refrigerator models after electricity outage.

Alternatively, try to press the Freezer and Energy Saver button down at the same time  (for 8 seconds).

Otherwise, you may need to retrieve your owners manual for the exact button combination to push – There are a few different button configurations to long press but they almost always map to the same positions.

Pro Tip: If the control panel is not working for you to hold any of the buttons for 8 seconds (They don’t respond and you have been locked out of the panel), try to unplug the fridge for 15 minutes then plug it back in then retry..
