I’m going to split this guide into three parts depending on your Maytag dishwasher model:
How to access and remove the filter in newer Maytag dishwashers
- Take out the bottom dish rack to get access to the tub area.
- Turn the nut beneath the lower spray arm ¼ turn counter-clockwise and then lift the arm to remove it:
- Disengage the tabs on the pump cover and pull it out:
- Loosen the feed tube by depressing the tab holding it to the back of the dishwasher wall.
Just to be clear, this is the feed tube:
- Now depress the tabs holding the feed tube to the sump area. This will give you enough room to move the feed tube to the side:
- Lift the filter off:
Pro tip: Unlike other Maytag filters, this filter does not separate from its housing. So, do not try to disassemble the filter assembly as this might damage it.
How to remove the filter in newer Maytag dishwashers with a triple filter system (2-in-1 filters)
- Remove the bottom rack to get access to the tub area:
- Turn the upper filter ¼ turn counter-clockwise and pull it out:
- Take out the mesh filter:

Now that you have taken out the filter, you can proceed to install a replacement filter or clean it using the steps in our other guide: How to clean a Maytag dishwasher filter as necessary.
Do all Maytag dishwashers have a filter to clean?
No, not all Maytag dishwashers have a filter.
While most Maytag dishwashers have a filter that traps food particles, some of the new Maytag dishwashers have a four-blade stainless steel chopper.
This chopper reduces the solid food waste into smaller particles in a similar manner as an under-sink food/garbage disposal.
So, you might want to confirm from your owner’s manual whether your model has a filter or not.

Remember, when re-inserting the filter, you will follow the steps above in reverse.
